Yesterday i got assigned Application Manager in the Debian New Maintainter process. We’re working on ID check and in the following days we’ll start Philosophy and Procedures check.
His name is Moray Allen (moray), a PhD student working on Machine Learning at University of Edinburgh and Debian developer since 2004.
Tired of compatilize mailboxes between all my machines and running undesirable webmails i decided last week change my mail user agent back to Mutt. I was Mutt user years ago and i’m not really sure about the reason of the change to Evolution and after to Sylpheed.
I was happy with Sylpheed but i need a bit more flexible system, now with the magic words (fetchmail, procmail, bogofilter and mutt) i can query my inbox worldwide using a simple secure shell connection and remembering some Mutt hotkeys.

‘Not a lot of time’ is the ETA to get an AM in the NM process. Only ten people before me in the queue, i’m currently waiting to get an Aplication Manager assigned. Last week i was signed by Amaya, i’m really grateful to her :)
I’m too busy this days but in my free time i’m refreshing my mind with the main lines of the Debian Free Software Guidelines and the Social Contract while waiting to my Sponsor for an upload of a new revision of libsvn-notify-perl.
I got with excitement this challenge months ago, i continue with the same strength (i guess).
Desde la mesa de las Jornadas os escribo, las Jornadas arrancan con la misma fuerza y ilusión que otros años con la primera ponencia guiada por Israel Gayoso. La asistencia no es tan multitudinaria como otros años pero, como apuntaba Labra mejor muchos y buenos que pocos y malos. Esperamos que la gente traiga la misma ilusión que nosotros y nos lo demuestre participando al máximo.
Ya queda menos de una semana para las VI Jornadas de Software Libre en Asturias, el mayor evento relacionado con el software libre en nuestra región. La organización está ultimando todos los detalles, esperemos que este año la gente responda tan bien como años pasados, para ello hemos preparado un suculento y variado programa de actividades que podeis consultar en la página web, no olvideis inscribiros.

What a surprise! just arrived from University and, in my inbox, I found an email from Maemo team with the developer discount code. Actually, my 770 is ordered. If the information in Nokia’s website is right, between my device and me are only two-three days. Congratulations for all the participants of Maemo community.

Continuing with this post, this is my second day in this new year at university. The return to first year classroom was hard and boring but there are interesting things to view in this place (everybody knows what I am speaking about…)
This weekend I was proclaimed Secretary of AsturLiNUX. My friends, I promise you that I’m going to do the work as better as I can. Last Secretary is explaining me all the things I should know to be an excellent Secretary, like him.
Yesterday, I was in a Web Accessibility speak at EUITIO, done by Jesús García from Fundación CTIC, it was good, I leave here an interesting URL to an animated GIF that explains how to build a website correctly.
Last days I was updating my Debian packages too, fixing some bugs. Last night, I started the NM process (thanks Ricardo).

Today I was in the EUITIO (ES) testing some videoconference issues to the next J.Manrique’s talk (ES).
Surfing the web, I found an interesting URL that shows an amazing number of linux kernel source lines in a special format, take a look to it!.

Despues de ya varios días sin poner ninguna entrada nueva en mi diario me animo a escribir.
Actualmente me encuentro trabajando en el Dpto. de Informática de EBHI en el Puerto de Gijón, aprovechando que no tengo que examinarme de nada en septiembre. Por allí todo bien, muy buenos compañeros, muy buen trato y muchos e interesantes proyectos.
Por otro lado, quería comentar mi adiós a Evolution y mi hola a Sylpheed. Después ya de algo más de un año con Evo, y de estar cansado de lo lento que se había hecho en sus últimas versiones me he decido a probar otro cliente. Al principio un poco reacio al cambio, pero me animé a instalar este software y a mirar todas sus opciones, y me quedé impresionado, todo lo que pretendía personalizar encontré opción para hacerlo, por lo que migré todas mis cuentas, mis mailboxes y mis filtros a Sylpheed, todo a la perfección. Ahora cuento con un cliente de correo electrónico rápido, óptimo y ligero, que es capaz de realizar el 100% de las tareas que le encomiendo por lo que estoy realmente contento con Sylpheed. Por fin me ha deshecho al completo de Gnome, y sus librerías en mi workstation de casa, así como del misterioso “evolution-data-server” que se había hecho íntimo de mi CPU.
Desde aquí agradecer el trabajo de nuestro compañero Ricardo Mones, por mantener el paquete de Sylpheed en Debian.

Para todos los lectores de mi diario, es un honor invitaros a las V Jornadas de Software Libre en Asturias que se celebrarán en Oviedo (Asturias) los días 14, 15 y 16 de Marzo del presente año. Contamos con un programa bastante interesante y adecuado para todos los públicos. Como novedad este año se instalará una red inalámbrica con acceso a internet tal y como comenté en mi último post, esperamos que todo salga bien y a gusto de todos.
